January has just started and, in some states, there’s more snow ahead in the next few months. If you’re stuck inside this winter, I have some ideas on how to keep you warm and entertained while it’s so cold out there.

1. Warm Up with a Drink

The best quick fix for cold feet (and souls) is a traditional warm winter drink. Just pick your choice of hot chocolate, warm and rich tea or a full-bodied coffee. Serve your drink with snacks and watch the weather outside from your cozy kitchen table.

2. Write Thank You Cards

January 23 is Handwriting Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate it than sending some love to the special people in your life. Maybe a note that says, “Thank you for traveling from so far away for the holidays,” or “Thank you for bringing in the eggnog.” When in doubt, simply write, “Thank you for making my Christmas a merry one.”

3. Print Your Photos

With coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) in hand, start organizing all the photos you took during the holidays. You can now send them to any online photo printing service and  wait for them while you’re warm at home. Some ideas on how to organize your photos would be: by date, celebration, person or under “unforgettable gathering 2015.”

4. Move Things Around

Now is a great time to rearrange the furniture. Whether it’s in your bedroom or the living room, moving around major pieces can make you feel like you own a new place. Plus, a refresh can help to chase away the winter blues.

5. Light It Up

If you’re still in the cozy mood, light up candles. They will bring a feeling of warmth and peacefulness, while filling your home with your favorite fragrance. I love the aroma of cinnamon and pine-trees during the holiday season, so why not extend it through January? When my favorite scented candles run out, I can always turn on the battery operated ones for that same comfortable vibe.

Remember, you can always set out to do bigger tasks, like starting an in-home exercise routine, organizing the garage or even taking up a new hobby, anytime during the year. But why rush things if it’s only January? Just keep calm, warm and have some fun.

What are some of your favorite ways to stay warm and happy through the cold winter months? Share them in the comments!
